The Escarpment Singers is Halton’s newest vocal ensemble!

If you have ever considered joining a choir, even for a fleeting moment (& we know you have), don’t hesitate! This choir is open to adults, university and senior high school students who just want to sing.  There is no audition or choreography and the atmosphere is supportive and fun. Repertoire will range from pop and musical theatre to jazz and contemporary choral works. Escarpment Singers will perform 2 to 3 times per year, including a joint holiday concert with the Milton Concert Band!

Rehearsals: Wednesday evenings, 7:15-8:45pm, September 11th to June 3rd
Where: Milton Seniors Activity Centre, 500 Childs Drive, Milton
Fee: $250 annual registration fee

Director

Bob Hall

Bob currently teaches music for the Halton District School Board where he has directed several successful bands, choirs, small ensembles and musicals. He has led his choirs in music festivals, competitions, concerts, benefits, tours and had the honour of conducting the 350-voice elementary mass choir at the 2015 Halton Music Showcase. 

Bob is a co-director of the nationally recognized Milton Show Choir which has secured numerous first place awards and has collaborated with local musical organizations including The Milton ChoristersA Capella ShowcaseMilton Philharmonic OrchestraSong Spinners and Milton’s own Kelly MacIntyre.

Bob has been teaching private voice lessons both at home and through various music schools for more than 14 years. He has also served as adjudicator for several vocal competitions including Senior Star and The Milton Talent Contest.

An accomplished entertainer, Bob has coached, accompanied, directed and starred in dozens of musicals and other theatre productions. In 2008 he starred as 'Beast' in Disney's Beauty and the Beast – Kinsmen’s lavish production, celebrating Kingston's newly renovated Grand Theatre. 

Bob has sung with some truly wonderful choirs including the Wilfrid Laurier Singers, Ontario Youth Choir, Cantabile Choirs of Kingston, Kingston Carollers, the barbershop quartet: Fourtissimo, John Laing Singers, the Boris Brott Festival Chorus and more church choirs than he can count. As a baritone soloist, Bob is also in high demand as a guest artist, wedding singer and cantor. His compositions have been performed by various choirs and his pop and theatre arrangements have become the bulk of the Milton Show Choir library. 

His passion for both choral music and theatre is clear, but his true joy comes from helping others explore their own love for music and performing.

Accompanist, Co-Director

Melanie Silva-Hall

Melanie’s musical studies and certifications have taken her to Wilfrid Laurier and Nipissing Universities where she earned a Bachelor of Music (Honors), Bachelor of Education and a Masters Degree in Community Music. She currently teaches music for the Halton Catholic District School Board & is the recipient of the Ontario College of Teachers 2014 Public Confidence Award. The award honors an individual, group, agency or institution that strives to strengthen public confidence in education and embeds the teaching profession's ethic of care, trust, respect and integrity.

Melanie’s love of music stems from her childhood, where she excelled with extensive accomplishments in piano, flute and years on the competitive dance circuit. The arts provided the opportunity to travel throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe.

She is a frequent director and accompanist for many successful concert bands, school, church and show choirs. Her groups have received numerous first place awards, scholarships, & adjudicator special recognitions. 

Melanie directed St Peter Elementary School Glee, winning Show Choir Canada's national junior titles in 2013, 2014 & 2015. As co-founder and co-director of Milton Show Choir she continues to receive high accolades on a national level from industry experts for her teaching, choreography and staging.

Melanie looks forward to her position as accompanist & co-director of Halton’s newest adult choir, the Escarpment Singers!
